Lab Grown Diamonds
A Modern Guide to Timeless Sparkle
Discover Roxluna’s guide to lab grown diamonds, what makes them real diamonds, how they’re created and what to consider when choosing yours.

Some things never lose their allure. A diamond catching the light is one of them. What has changed is the choice behind that sparkle. At Roxluna, we believe choosing fine jewellery should feel both exciting and informed. If you’re curious about lab-grown diamonds, here is what you need to know.
Are lab-grown diamonds real diamonds?
Yes. A lab grown diamond is a diamond created in a controlled environment rather than formed deep within the Earth. It has essentially the same chemical composition, crystal structure and optical and physical properties as a mined diamond. The difference is its origin, not whether it is a diamond.
It isn’t cubic zirconia or moissanite. Those are different materials that can resemble diamond. A lab-grown diamond has the sparkle and durability you expect from diamond jewellery.
How are they made?
Lab grown diamonds are created using one of two main methods. HPHT (high pressure, high temperature) recreates some of the intense conditions under which diamonds form. CVD (chemical vapour deposition) allows carbon to build up on a diamond seed, layer by layer. In both cases, the result is a diamond crystal that can be cut and polished into a beautiful gemstone.
Can you tell the difference by looking?
Usually, no. A well cut lab grown diamond can look just like a mined diamond to the naked eye. Specialist gemmological equipment can identify how a diamond was formed, which is why its origin should always be clearly stated when you buy it.
Why choose a lab grown diamond?
For many people, it’s about the freedom to choose the piece they truly love. Lab grown diamonds are often available at a lower price than comparable mined diamonds, making it possible to consider a larger stone or a different design within the same budget.
They are also wonderfully versatile. Picture a delicate pendant worn every day, a statement ring, or earrings that become part of your signature look. A lab grown diamond brings genuine diamond sparkle to a piece that feels entirely your own.
What should you look for?
Start with the diamond itself! cut, colour, clarity and carat weight all influence its appearance. Cut is especially important to the way a diamond reflects light. Then look at the setting, the metal, the craftsmanship and how the piece feels when you wear it.
For a significant purchase, ask whether the stone has an independent report and check that its lab-grown origin and any treatments are clearly disclosed. It is also worth asking about care, returns and any aftercare offered with the jewellery.
What about sustainability?
Lab grown diamonds are made without diamond mining, but creating them still uses energy and resources. Their environmental impact can vary according to how and where they are produced. If this matters to you, ask for specific information about the producer and its energy sources rather than relying on a broad sustainability label.
The choice is yours
Mined and lab grown diamonds have different stories, and both can be beautiful. The right one is the piece that suits your taste, your budget and the meaning you want it to hold. At Roxluna, we think the most beautiful jewellery becomes part of your story. However your diamond began, the moments you make with it are entirely your own.
